Time Travel with Adobe Firely |
Below are several videos that take advantage of Adobe Firefly First Frame technology. The Adobe app loads a real image that was taken on a film or digital camera that has no AI capabilities. Many of the images were taken long before any HD video was available to consumers. We have always wondered what a video of the subject we photographed as a still photo would have looked like as a video. When the original non-AI image is loaded into the app, it analyzes the image as to its content and motions associated with the image. For example, a lion fish in the Solomon Islands would be identified as a specific species, and the types of motions associated with the subject in the first frame. You can then assign additional info about the motion or description of the subject. You could type “Lion fish swimming left with mouth opening”. The app will then process the image and create a five-second video using the data from the image and any additional information it has about lion fish. So, the first frame is 100 percent real image, and the next 119 frames are AI frames modified from the first frame. |
Magazine Photograhy |
From 1970 to 2004, we published more than 800 magazine articles in 16 different magazines. Subject content included film tests for both slide and negative films, new camera introductions, photo lab equipment, underwater housings, diving destinations, flash systems, stories about animals, and photographic techniques. We have always wondered what those images would look like if we had a high-resolution video camera at the time. In 2026, Adobe Firefly made it possible.

Solomons with Flash |
From 2004 to 2010, we made dozens of dive trips to the Solomon Islands using a digital camera and multiple flashes. Video at that time was very poor in resolution and color quality, so we opted for the much higher quality still photos of the scenes. Adobe FireFly First Frame created motion for the animals in the scene and added constant light to the scene during the entire 5-second clip.

Solomons with LED |
From 2011 to 2019, we converted our flash system to LED lights, which allowed us to shoot both video and still photos. The video quality was getting better at HD, but still did not match the overall image quality of the stills. Using Adobe FireFly and Topaz Video AI, we were able to get 4K video from the still photos. |
Bonaire Underwater Lectures |
| From 2002 to 2019 we held underwater photography lectures in Bonaire. The first year we had five students, but as the years went by, we increased to twenty. The class was mainly for still photograhy since video at that time was very poor in resolution and color quality. Now with Adobe Firefly, we can go back in time and use some of the better still images shot during class and convert them to 4K video. |
